When should I go to the doctor?
Call your doctor right away when:
- You feel faint, dizzy, or weak
- You have trouble with normal activities such as cooking dinner, cleaning, or taking out the trash
- You have a cough that won’t go away
- You wheeze (make a high-pitched sound) when you breathe in or out, especially if you do not usually sound that way
- Your wheeze gets worse, even after your medicine has had time to work (most quick-relief medicines work within 15 minutes)
When should I call 911 or go to an emergency room (ER)?
Call 911 or go to an ER when:
- You have shortness of breath or trouble breathing
- Your symptoms do not get better after you use your quick-relief inhaler
- You sense tightness in your chest
- Your lips or fingernails turn blue or gray
